Well, after a good, what, two to three weeks of wrestling with it, I finally have a functioning Logitech MX Revolution mouse. I bought the mouse, received it, found it didn't work, did a whooooole lot of troubleshooting, used the thing on multiple computers with no success, dealt with Logitech customer service for several days (they were good, actually), finally received authorization to return the mouse to the company, sent it out, waited a week or so, received word that a replacement had been shipped, and today the DHL guy brought me my new buddy. And pow, it worked instantly. So, how is it?
It seems to be ... awesome. Best scroll wheel ever. I never realized just how much I relied on that thing until recently, but wow, I really do. My other good Logitech mouse, a G7, has a nice scroll wheel, but it's nicer on the PC than it is on the Mac. That mouse has no available Mac drivers, and though it does work on the Mac, it's not great. That's why I bought the new one. And I had another mouse that should have been great with the Mac, one that came with a wireless desktop package I got for Christmas, but the scroll wheel on that one seems downright defective. It killed me to not be able to use it. So for the last month or so, I'd been using that non-scroll-wheel Microsoft mouse on the PC and the G7 on the Mac. Neither was all that great. The G7 is a killer on the PC, but I needed something better for the Mac. So the MX Revolution was my choice. And yeah, it's cool. The scroll wheel has two modes, one that's engaged, where you feel a little notched clicking as you scroll, or disengaged, where the wheel just FLIES. It spins freely, which is the sweetest feeling thing ever on a mouse. I love it. Plus, if you have a page that requires more width than your browser window can give you, pushing it left or right will allow you to scroll left or right. Very nice. And there's a second wheel sort of thing on the side that, at this point, opens up the Mac dashboard. I imagine it's programmable, but it's nifty. And a dedicated button to do searches. Also cool. All the buttons seem very functional on this mouse, which I can't always say about other mice I've used. I have extra buttons on my G7 that I never use at all. It'll be cool to get some good out of the extra buttons on the Revolution.
Anyway, none of this is that interesting, but it's the end of a bit of an ordeal for me. My new mouse is happily charging for the first time now (I'm on the PC), and yeah, I suppose there could still be issues, but so far, so good. It's very nice. Thanks, Logitech!
Isn't it great when you buy something, particularly something for your computer, and it just plain ol' doesn't work? I bought a swanky new mouse, and yeah, it seems to be kind of a dud. Everything installs fine, the computer recognizes that I have the little USB plugin transmitter thing installed properly, but I can't get the pointer to move, and button clicks do nothing. The mouse is getting no signal at all. And it's a bummer. First time I've ever had an issue with a Logitech product. I try everything they say to fix it, but nothing.
Here's hoping they're willing to send me a replacement. Or give me a magical fix, ha.
When did I become so absolutely intent on buying only high-end mice for my computers? I think there was a time when I could have just gone to Best Buy or Target and picked up whatever they had and just been content, but no more. I have a Logitech G7 wireless laser gaming mouse for my PC, which I love. Two rechargable battery cells that I can swap out when one gets low (as shown by the three-stage battery indicator light!), three-speed pointer tracking at the push of a well-placed button, and lots of buttons, all fully customizable. Plus a very comfortable design. It's the nicest, smoothest mouse. But it just doesn't do what it should on the Mac. The tracking speed is just weird, the pointer leaps on its own from one side of my (large) screen to the other, and yeah, it's frustrating. I got a new wireless keyboard-mouse combo for Christmas, and while I love the new keyboard, that mouse just blows. It's too basic for me now (I tell you, I am a mouse snob extraordinaire), and it doesn't work that great. The scroll wheel is a joke. Doesn't function at all half the time. But even if it did function well, I don't know. I want laser! I want bells! I want whistles! So yeah, I'm in the market for a mouse that'll rock my Mac. My G7 doesn't actually even have any available Mac drivers, so that prolly explains the issues I've had. Kudos to Apple that the thing works as well as it does. So yeah, I need a Mac mouse. I was enamored with the bluetooth wireless laser Mighty Mouse, made BY Apple, but now I've cooled on that. The scroll ball thing seems cool, but everyone says it gets dirty too easily and can't be cleaned without tearing the mouse apart. Plus, it apparently has trouble distinguishing between left and right clicks. Hmmm. So yeah, now I want ... here it comes ... wait for it ... the Logitech MX Revolution wireless laser mouse. WOO! Yeah, I'll be ordering that eventually. List price, $100. Eeek. But looks like I can get an open box or something through eBay for half that, which I'm not above doing. But it seems to fulfill all my needlessly high requirements. "Experience bulletproof wireless freedom with robust 2.4 GHz Digital Cordless"! Hell yes. And two-speed scrolling! An extra wheel on the side! A four-stage battery life indicator! Nice. Plus, great reviews from Mac users. So the Mac can have the Revolution, and the PC can have the G7. Everyone's happy.
Logitech is awesome, by the way. Have I mentioned that? I've never once been disappointed with their products. Mouse, webcam, game controller, all good.
