I just wanted to say, tsk, tsk, Bachelor Matt. You dismissed my favorite bachelorette last night. Amanda is cool, but I love Noelle. She runs her own little photography business, she's smart, beautiful, not afraid to tell you that she has a "grandma" side to her (very endearing to me!), and she's from Colorado! Sure, she's in California now, but Colorado! From a city I know, to boot! And I love her name. I think she's awesome. Tsk, tsk, tsk. Tsk. Tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk, tsk. But that's okay. While it was disappointing at the time, it's certainly true that (for the most part), the women who go home early on this show are always the real winners. So yeah. Thanks for not coming to America and stealing all our women, Matt. Thanks for leaving the best one! Ha, ha. Funny how, for the most part, I always end up liking the people on that show who seem like they really aren't quite reality show material (a big compliment).
Yes, I know, dorky show.
In other TV news, Gossip Girl really is awesome, and yeah, Blair Waldorf remains my favorite character on TV. I'm so happy it's back! Last night's episode was delightfully complex and well-done.
Also, I need to start watching 30 Rock. Tina Fey is too great for me to not be watching.
AND, it was so nice to have Brothers & Sisters back! Good show.
And oh! James Van Der Beek sporting a receding hairline and a Canadian accent on How I Met Your Mother? I loved it. AND the return of Robin Sparkles. Can't ask for more.
Yay for the return of new TV! We just need more than a few episodes of each show. Those episodes are going to disappear like THAT.
Seems like it's been a while since I've written a vaguely embarrassing, too-long post about The Bachelor and how much I enjoy it in spite of myself, but darnit, we're coming down to the end now, and ABC is screwing us out of precious minutes each week, and I wanna talk about it. So stop reading now if you don't want to hear my long-winded thoughts on the show, ha.
Last week we got to travel to Canton, Georgia and Wichita, Kansas and Walnut Creek, California and the depths of hell, er, Bettina's family home in Washington, D.C., where we met the loved ones of our beloved bachelorettes. I've been a little undecided about who I want to win the show this year. Or, rather, I've been undecided about who my favorite bachelorette is. I'm never sure if my favorite should be who I want to win. I don't know if winning this show is a good thing or bad. Anyway, now I know who my favorite is. And my least favorite. So...
Let's start with my least favorite, BETTINA. Ugh. I really can't stand her now. There was a time when I wasn't sure, but now, yeah. I think she sucks. And not just because her family is heinous, but that certainly doesn't help. I do think you can tell something about a person by their family (in most cases, anyway), and Bettina's kinda fits her. Her dad is a snooty, elitist, judgmental ass-clown college professor with no social skills that I could see, and no filter over his big, stupid mouth. Her mom is a smirky, elitist, judgmental, snooty piece of crap. And ... I don't even know for sure who the rest of those people were. But they were snooty and elitist. I don't understand people who judge someone on the basis of what educational level they've reached, and their job, and nothing more. It made no difference that Brad is hugely successful. It made no difference that he's a good guy. How he felt about Bettina meant nothing. His morals, values, beliefs, opinions, none of it mattered once he mentioned that he didn't finish college. At that point, he became, quoth the dad, "a huge disappointment." And any dad who seems to be pining for his daughter's ex-husband is a piece of work in my book. AND, worst of all? Bettina SIDED WITH THE FAMILY AGAINST BRAD. Yeah, she blows. But Brad kept her. I don't GET that. Ha. And wow, I just wrote a lot. New paragraph.
Sheena's gone now, but her mom is a space cadet. Watching Brad struggle to find words to say was fun. But wow, if she wasn't already with Sheena's dad, I think ol' mom would have seduced Brad right there on the couch. Yikes. Anyway, not a terrible hometown visit, I guess, but not good enough, apparently. So long, Sheena. Now, Brad's time with Jenni in Kansas was better, I think. It seemed comfortable. Clearly Brad REALLY digs Jenni, and it's not hard to see why. She's happy, and nice, and she truly likes Brad. They have a certain (physical) chemistry, to be sure. I like Jenni, and I think she has to be considered the favorite at this point. The Phoenix thing could be an issue, but I don't know. Would I pick Jenni as my final choice there? Probably not. She is nice and sweet and cute and fun, but I think she may be a wee bit too happy for me, ha. And maybe a little too girly. Hmmm. Anyway, she's not quite my favorite. No. Though she is cool. My favorite is ... DeAnna.
DeAnna seemed like my favorite starting after episode #1 this season, but I've run kind of hot and cold with her ever since. She's smart, well-spoken, independent, and she seems very solid. She seems genuine. On the other hand, she seems rather serious a lot of the time. Not a bad thing, but yeah. And once in a while she seemed a bit ... not mean, but ... I think she struggled with her time amongst the other bachelorettes on the compound. Which again, isn't necessarily bad. I understand not enjoying that aspect of this. But it did make her hard to really get to know. I like her a LOT sometimes, but other times, I just don't know. Over the last few weeks, though, she's started to grow on me. And last week, finally away from the other girls, she solidified her spot as my favorite. I think she's great. I do. And her family is just awesome. As awful as Bettina's family is, DeAnna's is THAT good. Her dad is cool. Her sister and the rest of her siblings seem nice. Her grandparents rock. Everyone was warm and friendly and kind and welcoming and non-judgmental. It's JUST what you want a family to be if you're going to meet your girlfriend's parents. So yeah, DeAnna's my favorite. By a rather large margin now. She has depth the others lack, and she seems like someone you'd really like to spend your life with. And honestly, I can't think of a more beautiful bachelorette in the history of this show. It's all a matter of personal taste when it comes to who you find attractive, I know, but yeah. I think she's really, really, really, truly beautiful. So, don't be a dope, Brad. Ha.
And one other thing. Watching DeAnna's awesome Greece-meets-Georgia family, it made me realize that, if I were going to meet a girl's family, I'd be much more comfortable if that family were southern. This is weird coming from me, someone who often likes to deny his southern-ness (I don't really feel southern despite having lived in the south - and deep south - something like 26 years now), but yeah. I think it's true. I'm apparently enough of a southerner now that I'd feel very comfortable around a family from Georgia. Or South Carolina. Or yeah, North Carolina. There's a familiar warmth there. You wouldn't get a family like Bettina's in Canton. You just wouldn't. Nor would you in the town I live in. Sometimes I'm skeptical about "southern hospitality," but I do think there's something to it. So, yeah. I'd have enjoyed hanging out with DeAnna in Georgia. The end.
Actually, I'm southern in other ways, too. Like, when it comes to food. I'll take fried chicken, biscuits, grits, any of that good stuff, any day of the week. Mmmm.
And thus concludes the big Bachelor post. I write about SUCH weighty things here!
